Having acquired a 35mm Scanner earlier in the year I thought I should use it. These slides date from August 1976 when I had a holiday Youth Hostelling in the Dales. The Boots slides seem to have a blue hue and have over-exposed some!

A few shots taken while on a business trip to Cardiff. All the photographs were taken with a Nokia N95 mobile phone.

A few days spent walking in the Ribblehead area - limited sunshine - but the landscape is still stunning. This collection is as much about the landscape as it is the trains. A big 'shout out' to Pete Shaw for continuing to inspire me.

My first visit to the GWR and a great day it was too. Thanks to Mick Barstow and Bernie Holland for their guidance on lineside locations. A special thanks to Bryan Nicholls for his hospitality at Gotherington.

Had to go to the site of the proposed Nuneaton North Chord and Rugby SCC and managed to get a few shots. Just missed getting the Royal Train working south ecs to Wolverton whilst at Nuneaton.

A few shots taken at the Cross on the way to work and on the way home - 2 February. Said to be the heaviest snowfall for 18 years in some areas. Certainly I don't recall seeing 6 inches of snow in Central London before. Photographs were taken using my Nokia N95 mobile phone - it has proved useful and surprisingly capable.

With a day off and looking for a change of railway scenery visited Cheddington. No apologies for lack of Pendolino or Desiro shots. Thought about 'token shots' in the collection, but then again - no!

Had to go to Cardiff for work purposes on 4th November and had an hour and half to wait for my 'designated' train back to Paddington so kept myself occupied. These are some of the results.

On 16th October 2008 Network Rail hosted an Inspection Saloon trip from Ipswich to Nuneaton for stakeholders contributing to the funding of the upgrade to the route from Felixstowe to Nuneaton, known in the biz as F2N. Caroline was the saloon used and was pushed by DRS's 37423 running as 2Z02. It was a brilliant sunny day - ideal in some ways - but yours truly left his lens hood at home! Caroline has a lot of glass so there is a lot of reflection - apologies.

A special event took place on Tuesday 10 June 2008 to mark the completion of the major enhancements to the Dock branch. Attended by Minister for Transport Rosie Winterton MP. The work will enable the Port to handle 22 trains a day rather than current 10.

As part of some research for work I was privileged to be a guest of EWS Energy and rode 6R13 1325 Immingham - Drax as far as Knottingley. The journey took some 4 hours and gave the opportunity to take photographs from the cab. The service was hauled by 66143 with 21 HTAs trailing, some 1800tonnes.

The once extensive network of mail, postal and parcel trains is long gone. The number of trains run and volume of mail carried currently by GBRf is miniscule in comparison. Here's a look back to the way it was with photographs taken through the 1990s. Long live Res!

After spending nearly 8 years working on the WCML and taking just a few photographs in that time, so a revisit was overdue. Here are some shots from a trip to Rugby on 14 May 2007 and more recently Nuneaton on 15 February 2008. The collection will be added to from time to time.

Another locomotive class that I failed to get many shots of. When EWS was formed 58's were the best performing locos in the fleet. 90% plus availability. Sacrificed on the altar of standardisation.

I never really got many shots of 'Choppers' in BR days and by the time I worked in the North West the 20's had basically disappeared with the advent of Class 60's. However they are still going strong thanks to DRS and Harry Needle.

An unexpected trip to Lincoln on the 1st August 07 gave me the opportunity to photograph the station area just before resignalling swept away the semaphores during the 3 week blockade. The emphasis in this collection is on the signalling.

The Nene Valley Railway Mail Rail event was not just an opportunity to see the spectacle of mailbags being exchanged at speed but was an opportunity for some of the original Res Team to meet up. Here are some photographs from the event.

Freight, Charters and special workings on the ECML. My first wholly digital collection.

Series of photographs starting in August 2005 on the Settle - Carlisle Line, primarily around Blea Moor, Ribblehead and Horton. This is my favourite line and area of the country.

A day out on the NNR between Sheringham, Weybourne and Holt. A gloomy day weather wise. Only 3 mainline diesels in action - two Class 31's and a Class 25.

This collection features Charter Trains, Freight Workings and Special Traffic Workings in my home locality between 2000 and 2006. The opportunity to photograph loco hauled trains through Letchworth especially is rare these days.

In June 2000 the then EWS Senior Operations Manager assigned me to a prolonged spell of working with Mendip Rail to sort out some train performance and planning issues. This resulted in regular visits to Merehead, Westbury and Acton. Here are some photographs from that time.

I made a business trip to Long Marston and was allowed to take some photographs.

Class 60's otherwise known as 'Tugs'. Troubled introduction into service and basically superseded by the Class 66 despite it's much greater haulage capability.

A collection featuring Loco-hauled Passenger Services from Summer 1990 - the last timetable before Sprinterisation, plus the EWS/Arriva Class 37 service in 2004.

Continuing with the Hitchin Area theme but this time with focus on the decade 1990 to 1999. The transition from sectorisation to privatisation.

Iconic, stylish - British design and engineering at it's best. Probably the finest passenger train to run in Britain. Nothing post-privitisation to match it.

The Deltics were, in my opinion, one of the best locomotive types to run on British metals. I have never understood the obsession with Westerns! I just wish I had taken photographs of the Deltics when they were in revenue-earning service.

Kenny O was a London freight hotspot and well worth a visit before the influx of Class 66's.

Class 47's around country, in a variety of liveries from the 1980's through to the 21st Century.
